About this experience

Your evening begins on the crystal-blue water just off Malé, at the hour when the light softens and the heat drops away. The boat leaves at 5:30 PM, so there is time to settle in and watch the sky change colour before anything else happens.

Once the guide has run through safety and shown you how the handlines work, you fish the way Maldivians have always fished the reef — no rods, just line, bait and patience. Red snapper and other snappers, groupers, barracuda, jacks, emperors and squirrelfish all live on these reefs.

Whatever comes up is cleaned and grilled on board. Sunset, fishing and a fresh-catch BBQ, in one three-hour evening.

  1. 1Sunset journey and briefing

    Depart Malé, settle in for the evening views and sunset, then run through safety guidance, fishing instructions and how the trip will work.

  2. 2Reef fishing

    Drop lines over the reef and try for red snappers, groupers, barracuda, jacks, emperors and squirrelfish.

  3. 3Fresh-catch BBQ

    The fish caught during the trip is grilled and served on board.

  4. 4Return and end of tour

    Back to the starting point at approximately 8:30 PM.

Pricing and minimum booking

  • Adults are $95 per person and children $75 per child, ages below 12.
  • This trip runs with a minimum of 5 guests. Smaller groups can still book, but the trip is charged at the minimum of $475 in total.
  • For example: 5 adults costs $475. A smaller group of two would come to $190 at the per-person rate, but the trip is charged at the $475 minimum.
